Mexican peso rises due to hopes of de-escalation of war in the Middle East

The Mexican peso appreciated 0.69 percent, starting the week with a price of 17.77 units per dollar, this Monday, March 23, 2026.

Mexican markets advanced in a day of swings after the president of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that an agreement with Iran could soon be finalized to end the war in the Middle East.

The president said that during the last day talks had been held between both nations, in which both parties reached “important points of agreement,” which was denied by the Iranian government.

Trump threatened over the weekend to destroy Iran’s electrical grid if Tehran did not open the Strait of Hormuz, causing the Islamic republic to respond with the promise of retaliation against Israel’s power plants and those that supply energy to US bases in the Persian Gulf.
