At least 336 people were arrested on Saturday (05/30/2026) in France, 235 of them in Paris, where a police officer was injured by the launching of fireworks during the celebrations of the second Champions League of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the authorities reported in a still provisional balance.
In its last bulletin around midnight, the Police Prefecture reported that 71 people were arrested in the capital after the triumph celebrations.
To avoid episodes like those in 2025, the French authorities deployed 22,000 police and gendarmes throughout the country, of which 8,000 were in Paris and its metropolitan area.
Paris tram service was also suspended, several metro stations were closed and bus traffic was interrupted at some points in order to minimize unrest.
The Police estimated that there were 20,000 fans who gathered on the Champs Elysees in Paris to follow the final between PSG and Arsenal.
Last year, when PSG won its first Champions League, there were serious riots in various parts of France: two people died and almost 200 were injured, including a police officer who is in a coma. In Paris alone there were 500 arrests.
This year, the incidents were again centered on the Champs-Elysées and surrounding areas, but they also occurred near the Parc des Princes – PSG’s stadium – and in the Place de la République.
There was also an attempted invasion by about 150 people in the Paris stadium (southwest of the city). Security forces also aborted an attempted attack on a police station in district VIII.
Macron will receive the players on Sunday
The French president, Emmanuel Macron, will receive this Sunday the PSG players and his technical team led by Luis Enrique, brand new champions of the Champions League – the second they have won in a row – by winning the penalty shootout against Arsenal in the final in Budapest.
In a statement, the Elysée reported that the team will arrive at the Elysée at 6:10 p.m. local time (4:10 p.m. GMT). Shortly afterwards, at 6:45 p.m., Macron will give a public statement about PSG’s feat.
