We have already talked many times about Mina the Hollower, which could well join the best Nintendo Switch games and now also Nintendo Switch 2. A few months ago it officially confirmed a version for nintendo switch 2.
A while ago it was delayed indefinitely and now we have interesting news after its launch, as it is now available for $19.99 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch and PC through Steam, GOG and Humble Store. After knowing that it was placed as the highest rated game of the year on Metacritic, now Sean Velasco, director of Yacht Club Gameshas offered interesting statements.
Below are the highlights, shared via Bloomberg:
-
Mina the Hollower exceeds 300,000 copies sold in just 3 days
According to a Bloomberg report, Yacht Club Games’ new game has reached 300,000 units sold in just three days since its launch, quickly approaching the studio’s goal of exceeding one million copies.
-
The most acclaimed game of 2026 to date
The title has become one of the highest-rated games of the year, which has generated great media and commercial attention since its release.
-
An action adventure inspired by the classics
Players control Mina, an explorer known as a Hollower who must rescue a cursed island. The adventure combines exploration, whip combat, underground excavation, challenging bosses, secrets and a high-quality pixel art aesthetic accompanied by an outstanding soundtrack.
-
Yacht Club is already thinking about the future of the saga
Although the game has just been released, the studio has already internally discussed possible future content and the potential of turning Mina the Hollower into a long-lasting franchise.
-
There will be no free downloadable content
Lead programmer David D’Angelo confirmed that if additional content is ever developed, it won’t be free. The studio believes that it has already delivered everything promised during the financing campaign and does not want to create expectations that it cannot meet.
-
The DLC is not decided yet
Currently there are no concrete plans for expansions. According to D’Angelo, the game is already very big and they would first have to study how to add new content appropriately.
-
There are already ideas for a sequel
The team acknowledges that it has left some clues within the game about possible future stories. Although nothing is confirmed yet, they consider Mina the Hollower as an important property for the studio, on the level of Shovel Knight.
-
Sales much higher than those of Shovel Knight
While Shovel Knight needed a week to reach 75,000 copies sold, Mina the Hollower has quadrupled that number in less than half the time.
-
Success guarantees stability for Yacht Club
Sean Velasco, co-founder of the study, explained that good sales will allow the company to continue operating without the need for personnel cuts or external investments in the short term.
-
Velasco wants to close the gap between reviews and sales: he doesn’t understand why he isn’t selling more
Although he is satisfied with the commercial performance, he believes that such a highly rated game should sell even faster and expects the numbers to continue growing in the coming weeks.
-
The launch was scheduled for Halloween 2025
Initially the game was going to be released in October 2025, but it was delayed a few months before its release.
-
The delay was due to a huge polishing phase
David D’Angelo explained that the game was perfectly playable at the time, but the team decided to spend several additional months improving every corner of the experience.
-
All areas of the game were reviewed
The developers continually analyzed which rooms, levels or situations were least satisfying for players and worked until none stood out negatively from the rest.
-
Great effort in balancing all ways of playing
A significant portion of the extra time was spent adjusting the difficulty and progression so that the adventure would work properly regardless of whether the player is focusing on the main story, exploring all the optional content, or using different combinations of weapons, attachments, and abilities.
