According to official information, users older than Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or iOS 12 will no longer be able to access the application, send or receive messages. This includes older models from brands such as Samsung, LG, Huawei, Sony, HTC, iPhone 5 and previous versions, among others.

This measure responds to the company’s goal of guaranteeing security updates and technical support only on devices that have the minimum software requirements. Over time, outdated systems become more vulnerable to failures or attacks, so WhatsApp seeks to optimize the experience for the millions of active users around the world.

What to do if your cell phone is no longer compatible?
WhatsApp recommends to affected people make a backup of your conversations and files before October 31. This can be done from the section Chats > Backup in the app settings.

Subsequently, it is suggested update the operating system if the device allows it or, failing that, purchase newer equipment that supports modern versions of Android or iOS.
