Los Angeles Dodgers win World Series after dramatic Game 7 victory

The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 at Rogers Center in Toronto this Sunday to win the World Series in a dramatic Game 7 that lasted 11 innings.

The Los Angeles Dodgers pulled off one of the most incredible comebacks in World Series history to win the 2025 World Series.

Trailing 4-3 in the ninth inning, a home run by Venezuelan Miguel Rojas tied the game and took the game to extra innings. A home run by Will Smith in the top of the eleventh inning gave the lead for good.

It is the first time in 25 years that a team has won consecutive World Series titles.

There was great anticipation all day leading up to Game 7 on Saturday night in Toronto.

It was a high-profile pitching duel between Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani and three-time Cy Young winner Max Scherzer for the Blue Jays.

They also faced the powerful Los Angeles offense against the powerful Toronto offense.

And boy, the four-hour-plus, do-or-die game lived up to expectations and more!

The Blue Jays opened the scoring early with Bo Bichette’s three-run homer off Ohtani in the third inning.

Despite taking Ohtani off the mound, the Dodgers did not give up.

Two sacrifice flies in the fourth and sixth innings brought the score closer, but Blue Jays second baseman Andrés Giménez doubled to right field to drive in Ernie Clement and double the lead in the bottom of the sixth, before a solo home run by Max Muncy in the eighth inning put the game back up by one run.

Sometimes the people you least expect shine when the lights are on the brightest, and that’s what Venezuelan Miguel Rojas did for the Dodgers.

With the Blue Jays just two outs away from their first title in 32 years and the Rogers Center buzzing, the 36-year-old shortstop, who had been struggling at bat throughout the postseason, hit a key game-tying home run off closer Jeff Hoffman in the ninth inning.

And in the next half inning, a key defensive play by Rojas kept the team’s title hopes alive, along with an incredible catch by Andy Pages, who collided with Kiké Hernández to force extra innings.

Dodgers catcher Will Smith, no stranger to big home runs, was the answer again with what turned out to be the game-winning solo home run in the 11th inning.

On several occasions, it looked like the Dodgers and Blue Jays would take control, but the pitching responded in key moments for both teams.

But it was Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who got the win as the Los Angeles starter in Game 6 on Friday, who became the Dodgers’ hero.

The 27-year-old Japanese phenom pitched 2 2/3 innings and shut the door on the Blue Jays, forcing catcher Alejandro Kirk to hit into a double play and secure the victory.

Los Angeles became the first team to win back-to-back titles since the New York Yankees won three in a row from 1998 to 2000.

Yamamoto was named the Most Valuable Player of the World Series.
