The intense rainy qualifying session at the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix left Lando Norris in first place, the McLaren driver who defeated all his rivals decisively in a round where there were several surprises.

The first of them was the elimination of Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari in Q1, leaving the Briton in 20th position, just behind the Japanese Yuki Tsunoda and his Red Bull who had shown potential in the third practice. Likewise, Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s Mercedes did not make it past the first round due to the conditions.

The Argentine Franco Colapinto was eliminated in Q2 and will start in 15th position after having taken his Alpine through a complicated Q1 where he started with the intermediate compound before installing the rain tires.

Carlos Sainz was a positive surprise by qualifying in third, behind Norris and the Red Bull of Max Verstappen. The Spaniard’s result was in contrast to that of Alex Albon who suffered a crash in Q1 leaving him out of his options after he came to be with his Spanish teammate at 1-2 in the times.
