From America as the top winner, even teams like Toluca either Tigers who have managed to get into the elite of Aztec football, in addition to the fact that the other ‘greats’ have been left behind.
America came to be below Chivas regarding titles in this century. However, the Águilas were champions in Verano 2002, Clausura 2005, Clausura 2013, Apertura 2014, Apertura 2018, Apertura 2023, Clausura 2024 and Apertura 2024. Chivas and Cruz Azul, the ‘big’ laggards
This 21st century began with Chivas at the top of Mexican soccer, because they were the winningest team. However, in these 25 years they have barely managed to win two titles, which were in the Apertura 2006 and Clausura 2017. This shortage has caused America to now surpass them by four and Toluca to have tied them.
Another of the greats that has fallen short on this list is Blue Cross. After having endured a drought of more than 20 years without a league championship, La Maquina was crowned in the 2021 Guardianes, which has been its only league trophy in these 25 years, leaving it with nine and close to being equaled by teams like Tigres or León.
