La Jornada – CFE returns to the international market; issues 2 bonds that achieve historic demand

Mexico City. After 16 months of absence, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) returned to the international financial markets, with a debt issue that had historic demand.

“The CFE, in its issuance of international debt, on January 22, obtained the highest oversubscription ever recorded. Upon its return to the international financial markets and after 16 months of absence, it reached 10,451 million dollars in maximum demand,” the company announced in a statement.

He considered that the above is a sign of the interest and confidence that international investors have in it.

The operation was carried out in two parts: an 8-year bond, with an indicative rate of 6.04 percent, whose resources will be used to refinance debt and will “significantly strengthen the financial profile of the CFE.”

The second bond was for 25 years, with a rate of 6.5 percent and an average life of 12 years. The money raised will be used to finance investment projects.

“The transaction confirms the confidence of global institutional investors, reduces the cost of financing to record levels and establishes new positive references for future emissions of the Mexican energy sector,” said the electricity company.

He added that demand for the issue was so strong “that the market accepted the bonds without asking for an extra incentive on both bonds, which confirms financial discipline and optimal transactional design.”
