More merchandise from Avengers: Doomsday has found its way to the web, and the spotlight is once again on Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom… in slipper form. Although it seems like an innocent detail, they would show a different look for the villain than what has been leaked before.
While these are obviously very stylized, the first pair appears to have been inspired by what we saw Downey wear on stage at Comic-Con in 2024. This also resembles Doom’s relatively simplified look in the mid-credits scene of Fantastic Four: Getting Started. With that in mind, we wouldn’t mind betting that it’s an indication of what he’ll wear before we get the
Doctor Doom “classic”.
The second pair represents a more traditional costume design, which seems to match what we’ve seen in the official promotional art. You’ll notice that both items are labeled Avengers: Doomsday, so this is merchandise from the movie.

While we’re sure the rest of the cast will receive their fair share of merchandise in the coming months, it’s interesting that the current focus is on Doom. With Downey, a great attraction for the MCU
like Tony Stark, playing the villain, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised. Beyond the sting of The Fantastic Four, we haven’t seen any Doom in the MCU before now because the original plans called for Kang the Conqueror to be the big bad of the Multiverse Saga.

Last year, the co-director of Avengers: DoomsdayAnthony Russo, was asked about Downey’s return to the MCU as Doom after previously playing iron man. “We can’t explain that, since it’s part of the story,” the filmmaker joked. “There’s no one else in the world who can play this character the way he’s about to.”
Avengers: Doomsday officially features the stars Chris EvansChris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, and Robert Downey Jr. Wyatt Russell, Simu Liu, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Mabel Cadena, Florence Pugh, Danny Ramirez, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Lewis Pullman, and India Rose Hemsworth all make their debuts in the Avengers franchise.
The protagonists of Fantastic Four: Getting Started Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn joining them, as do X-Men franchise stars Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, with Deadpool & Wolverine star Channing Tatum.
The specialized media have indicated that Ryan Reynolds and Hayley Atwell will also appear in Avengers: Doomsday.

Avengers: Secret Wars from a script by Stephen McFeely, with whom they previously collaborated on the Avengers and Captain America franchises. Michael Waldron from Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has also been recruited to help.

How will Marvel justify the return of Robert Downey Jr. in Avengers: Doomsday?
The narrative justification for Tony Stark’s face returning as the most feared villain in the multiverse is the Russo Brothers’ best kept secret. However, the most logical and accepted explanation lies in the concept of the Variants within the Multiverse Saga. Marvel does not seek to “revive” the
iron man who sacrificed himself in Endgame, but rather to present a Victor Von Doom from an alternate reality—specifically Earth-828—who was simply born with the same physical appearance.
This decision will allow the plot to play with deep psychological horror, where the Avengers will not only face the mystical and technological power of Doom, but the trauma of seeing the face of their former mentor turned into a ruthless dictator.
Anthony Russo has hinted that the physical resemblance is “part of the story,” suggesting that the film will directly address the tragic irony of a man who, in one universe, saved existence, while in another he seeks to dominate it under an iron fist.
Far from being a simple casting trick, the return of Robert Downey Jr. will serve as a reminder that, in the multiverse, a small difference in fate can turn the world’s greatest hope into its darkest threat.
