Measles in Jalisco has already claimed the first death of the year, as confirmed by the Federal Ministry of Health in its Daily Report on the Measles Outbreak in Mexico.

With this death, there are now three deaths associated with this disease since the outbreak began in Mexico approximately a year ago.

One of these victims was an 11 month old babyoriginally from Guerrero, who was in Jalisco because her parents, day laborers, had come to work in the agricultural fields. In fact, according to the Jalisco Ministry of Health, the baby was already infected from her entity of origin and died due to health complications, including malnutrition.

According to the state agency, more information has already been requested about this new death to obtain details about the patient’s sex, age and previous health conditions.

With the most recent death, there are also four deaths in Mexico so far in the first weeks of 2026, and 31 accumulated since the start of the new outbreak in 2025.

On the other hand, until the last cut announced in the Daily Report of the Measles Outbreak in Mexico There were 2,659 confirmed cases of measles in Jalisco, of which 1,995, that is, the vast majority, were registered in 2026.

In this sense, this morning, during the “La Mañanera” press conference of the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaumthe Undersecretary of Sectoral Integration and Coordination of Health Care Services, Edward Clark, shared data on the infection rate that exists in the different entities of Mexico, where Jalisco is in first place nationally, not only with the most cases, but with the most confirmed infections: 19.65 per 100 thousand inhabitants.

This entity is followed by: Colima, with a rate of 8.17 per 100 thousand inhabitants, and in third place Chiapas, with a rate of 4.83.

In total, There are 11 entities considered by the federal Ministry of Health (led by Jalisco) as priorities to address the measles outbreak in Mexico, where vaccination campaigns against the disease will be reinforced.

People can go to any public health institution to receive the vaccine for free, regardless of whether or not they have affiliation or social security.

The priority is minors between 6 months and 12 years of age, age group that, according to Eduardo Clark, is at greater risk of infections.

In second place in priority is the age group of the people between 13 and 49 years of age, who should already have the doses that complete their vaccination schedule.

The undersecretary insisted that those people over 49 years of age who have their complete regimen or have already had measles infection do not require a new dose, since this has already protected them against this new outbreak.
