In this sense, a giant like Volkswagen It seems to be very clear that it is not going to make a change in trend easy, so, when no one expected it, it has renewed one of its most historic models to cope. It has not yet gone on sale, but the vehicle has been seen rolling on snowy roads in northern Europe, that is, tests are being carried out to finalize its sale. And it has been confirmed that the project is progressing at a good pace. The Polo is one of the vehicles with the most history of the company, since it has been a vehicle that has demonstrated efficiency, and that has been in thousands of homes as the first car for new drivers or as the second vehicle in a family, and always with very good performance. It is a compact, fast, sporty car that has always been a lot of fun to drive. And what is to come is a continuous trend, with 226 HP of power, a range of 430 kilometers. Volkswagen tests the ID. Polo GTI

At the moment it has only been seen in Scandinavia, rolling on snowy roads, and the company has not bothered to camouflage the model, although from what we have seen, there are several variants of the car, a very sporty one that could be a new version of the R-Line.

The tests, therefore, confirm that, beyond an initial version that had already been announced, the sports version is underwayalso very close to hitting the market, although forecasts continue to point to a launch after the rest of the range.

The ID. Polo electric will have three power levels, 116 HP, 135 HP and 211 HP. The first two variants will have a 37 kWh LFP battery, which will be compatible with direct current fast charging of up to 90 kW. The top 211 HP version will mount a 52 kWh NCM battery with 130 kW charges. This is expected to be the basis of the ID. Polo GTI, although the power will be 226 HP, and the autonomy is expected to be above 400 kilometers in the WLTP cycle.

This sports version will have elements that allow it to improve dynamic behavior, such as the self-locking front differential, a piece that will be key to managing power and offers more precision while driving.

The Volkswagen ID. Electric pole inside

Under the MEB+ platformin new Pole shows an evolution of the electrical architecture already present in other models from the ID firm. The size does not differ from the Combustion Pole, 4,053 mm long, 1,816 mm wide and 1.5 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,600 mm.

The interior is much more optimized, more space for passengers, and a larger trunk, with a capacity of 435 liters, a capacity above other top models of the brand. All this is achieved thanks to the mechanical configuration, since the engine and traction are on the front axle, being able to free up space at the rear.

Volkswagen and the electric age

The idea of ID. Polo GTI is to be able to demonstrate that electric driving can also be as fun as traditional internal combustion models were, an objective of a brand that has always been characterized by that sporting spirit that has taken it to the top.

On the other hand, another of the company’s main objectives is to stand up to the Chinese market. In 2024, Asian models began to increase in sales, but no one expected what happened to them in 2025, being already an option that many buyers take into account. Volkswagen suffered a hard blow in that first year, was able to recover last year, and it seems that now it is clear what strategy it must carry out to be able to stand up to it.

For now, it is committed to the total renewal of one of the models that has brought it the most success throughout history, the Polo, which is completely adapted to the new times, and also offers sporty driving that few compact cars can offer today. There is no doubt that it will continue to be a sales success, it only remains to know the sales date of the first models in the range, and the subsequent sale of the GTI version, one of the most anticipated in the sector.
