The age of mutants is almost upon us… or so we think! Walt Disney Studios has reportedly added three untitled Marvel Studios films to its 2028 and 2029 release schedule, while also removing two dates from its 2028 schedule.

The updated release schedule for Marvel Studiosincluding the three new dates, is now as follows:

Meanwhile, the following dates have been removed from the Marvel calendar:

  • February 18, 2028.
  • November 10, 2028.

Although the premieres are several years away, it doesn’t hurt to speculate and make some educated guesses about what’s next for Marvel Studios in Phase Seven and beyond. The date of May 2028 has been frequently mentioned as a potential release date for the long-awaited reboot of the
X-Menwhich features Jake Schreier directing and Michael Lesslie writing the script.

The expansion of the Mutant Saga and the return to Wakanda in Marvel

If the X-Men kick off the 2028 summer movie season, we wouldn’t hesitate to bet that the July 2028 date could have been reserved for Black Panther 3. Oscar winner Ryan Coogler is already set to return and Denzel Washington is rumored to be joining in a villainous role.

Many assumed it would arrive in February 2028 to mark the 10th anniversary of the first film, but delaying it for a summer debut would also be a solid choice, especially in a weekend that has consistently been a winner for Marvel Studios.

Doctor Strange 3 It’s also a very real possibility, but there hasn’t been as much movement there compared to the third installment of Black Pantherso we’d lean towards BP3 over DS3, although everything is subject to change. An alternative option would be a sequel to
Spider-Man: Brand New Dayalthough Disney doesn’t usually book dates for Sony, so it’s probably a long shot, although we wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up happening.

Yeah Brand New Day is as big as we all anticipated, it’s very likely that Sony will want to release a sequel sooner rather than later, although it will depend on star Tom Holland’s schedule, as he is expected to be a major part of
Avengers: Secret Wars.

December 2028 remains a mystery, but we imagine it will be a monumental event of some kind, especially since it would come after the premieres of Doomsday and Secret Wars in the 2026 and 2027 windows (both are expected to have massive winters), so we wouldn’t necessarily be surprised if the X-Men end up premiering here.

As for 2029, with The Mutant Saga coming in, we imagine, or at least hope, that we’ll get some mutant action here, but it’s hard to say. There is a high probability that a sequel to Fantastic Four: Getting Started is in the plans, maybe Deadpool 4but other options also include Midnight Sons,
Blade and/or a spin-off of wolverine.

Marvel’s new Phase Seven strategy board

The restructuring of Marvel Studios’ calendar reflects a deliberate transition towards consolidating its most powerful franchises after the closure of the Multiverse Saga. By eliminating dates in February and November to favor release windows in May and July, Disney is positioning its future projects—especially the X-Men reboot and the possible Black Panther 3—as the commercial pillars of the next decade.

This move suggests that the studio will prioritize “event movie” quality and impact over the constant volume of releases, ensuring that each film has the space it needs to dominate the cultural conversation.

With the incorporation of talents such as the director Ryan Coogler and the possible signing of Denzel Washington, Phase Seven not only promises visual spectacle, but a narrative and acting depth that seeks to recover Marvel’s absolute hegemony at the global box office.
