WWE held a new edition of Friday Night SmackDown tonight with several matches and segments heading to WrestleMania. In one of the highlights of the evening, commentator Pat McAfee made his return and surprised the audience by revealing that he was the man behind Randy Orton’s mysterious calls.
Randy opened the evening in his hometown of St. Louis to a deafening ovation. “The Viper” did not take long to warm things up by ensuring that His goal at WrestleMania is to capture his fifteenth world championship, throwing a dart straight at Cody Rhodes. Orton claimed that the champion himself gave him the “green light” to release his most ruthless version, warning him that the voices in his head are right: Cody is not a murderer and he will not be able to stop what has awakened inside him.
Cody soon appeared in the ring to face his rival, unleashing an exchange of blows that ended unexpectedly. In a complete turn, Pat McAfee entered the ring to treacherously attack the champion with a low blow, allowing Orton to take control with a metal chair, while the officers tried to intervene without success.
McAfee confirmed to be the mysterious voice behind the phone calls to Orton in recent weeks. The commentator stated that he has allied himself with Randy because he considers him the only one capable of “saving this business” and ending the reign of Cody, whom he described as a “puppet of power.” After the attack, both left the venue in a vehicle, leaving the Undisputed Champion being treated by the medical staff in the middle of the ring.
