You could say that Bruno Mars has had the keys to the Las Vegas Strip for over a decade, thanks to two landmark residencies at The Cosmopolitan and Dolby Live that have generated more than $200 million.
As of Friday, April 10, Mars now holds the royal key to the city thanks to a day full of milestones in his career, which included a street named in his honor, Bruno Mars Drive; an official proclamation of the day and a real key to the castle; and a ceremonial state flag presented by Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo. The show coincided with the start of his first tour in more than a decade, with which he will visit American football stadiums in North America for the first time.
All this… and a Hello Kitty parade made the debut of The Romantic Tour an unforgettable occasion for the sold-out crowd that gathered to celebrate Mars both day and night at Allegiant Stadium.
As for the main event, the first of his two Las Vegas concerts, Mars began the maximalist two-hour soul, funk and pop session around 8:50 p.m., and didn’t stop until he performed every new song, classic and crowd-favorite hit, even bringing back Silk Sonic with Anderson .Paak.
The setlist immersed the 65,000 fans who packed the stadium into the Mars universe, from the soulful opening ballad “Risk It All” to the anthemic “Uptown Funk.”
Between the impeccable choreography and captivating musical talent of his band The Holligans, Mars framed the night not as a retrospective, but as a statement: one that positions the era The Romantic as his most confident and stylish stage so far. Living up to his newly awarded title of “King of Las Vegas,” Mars is one of the biggest live performers today.
