The F1 2026 Miami Grand Prix activity has undergone a last-minute modification to its race schedule. Given the thunderstorms predicted for Sunday, the FIA and F1 have decided to advance the start time of the race.
Following discussions between the FIA, the FOM and the Miami promoter, the decision has been made to bring forward the start of the Miami Grand Prix from Sunday to 13:00 local time due to the weather forecast predicting more intense rain storms in the afternoon, close to the originally scheduled start time.
This decision has been made to guarantee the least possible interruption to the race, ensure the maximum possible window to complete the Grand Prix in the best conditions and prioritize the safety of the drivers, fans, teams and staff.
This preventive measure seeks to avoid the scenes of prolonged interruptions due to red flags that extreme rainfall in this region usually causes. By advancing the start to 1:00 p.m., Formula 1 gains a crucial operating margin before the most aggressive storm cells impact the urban layout.
The original time for the start was agreed for 4:00 p.m. local time.
For fans and teams, this adjustment implies a reconfiguration of previous logistics in the paddock and hospitality areas. However, the consensus between the FIA and the promoters is absolute: the primary objective is that the 57 agreed laps are completed under track conditions that allow pure competition.
