Xbox has changed a lot in recent months. Since Asha Sharma replaced Phil Spencer, the new Xbox boss has made important decisions to change the course of the video game gaming division. Not only has the price of Xbox Game Pass dropped, but it wants to once again give it the importance that the console exclusivesin order to give players reasons to buy the Xbox Series X|S. Not all of them will be and not all at once, but it seems that Xbox’s plan with exclusives is more ambitious than it seems.
A couple of days ago it was confirmed that Xbox was returning to console exclusives. For now, Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will be the first to be on Xbox Series X|S and PC. However, Xbox’s plan is more ambitious than it seemed and, perhaps, long term we could see many more exclusives on Xbox consolesalthough it is a complex process. “We are the number two publisher in the world and when you do that you want your games to be everywhere,” explains Sharma in an interview with Fortune.
“You are stronger when the world plays with you. At the same time, we are increasingly becoming a platform and it is difficult to find examples of platforms out there that do not have exclusive services and content,” he says. “Our business is not particularly healthyas you’ve noticed, so we’re starting with the introduction of one or two flagship exclusives and, as the business is healthier, we will seek to do more (exclusive)”.
The model aims to be a partial strategyand from XBOX they will decide which title will be exclusive to the console. It may be that in the coming years, if the business is healthier, those from Redmond will not have the need to launch their own Xbox Game Studios games on other platforms. However, there are many confused users since they don’t quite understand the strategy, since Halo and Forza Horizon 6 will be on PS5, but Gears of War: E-Day not when Gears of War: Reloades did come to the Sony console last year. It was in February 2024 when Xbox’s multiplatform strategy began, and it was in June 2026 when the course changed.

Clockwork Revolution will be exclusive to Xbox consoles, and will be released on Series X|S and PC.
Xbox Game Pass recovers
Another topic that Sharma has commented on has been about Xbox Game Pass. The CEO had recognized months ago that the 50% increase in prices had been a mistake since this price increase had caused a loss of millions of subscribers. “We had raised prices 50% last year and were on track to see a drop in subscribers – it had simply become too unaffordable.” The response to this was a price drop that brought Game Pass Ultimate to 20.99 euros per month, and it seems that subscriptions have grown again. Of course, it seems that Sharma has some plans for Game Pass this summer. “We have more work to do, so we will do more things this summer for create more flexible offers that satisfy all types of players”
