A case of malaria is detected in a tourist who traveled to Jalisco for the World Cup

The director of Public Health, Roberto Carlos Rivera, announced that they detected an imported case of malaria in a Colombian who went to Mexico City and Guadalajara to watch the World Cup matches.

They say that the Colombian presented symptoms such as vomiting and headache during his stay in Mexico City, but it did not seem so important to him, so he traveled to Guadalajara to watch his national team’s match.

However, when he arrived to watch the game, his previous symptoms returned, adding fever and intense muscle pain, so he decided to go for a check-up.

When the doctor who treated him confirmed that he was Malaysian, the Colombian was sent back to his home to recover.

For the moment, the authorities ruled out the risk that more infections could occur and do not consider it something risky since malaria is only transmitted by mosquito bites.

He clarified that Jalisco has not recorded an indigenous case of malaria in the state for 15 years.
