Infantino reaffirms his confidence in Mexico for the World Cup celebration
From Colombia, the president of the International Football Association Federation (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, has supported Mexico as host of the World Cup, despite the wave of violence that was unleashed in the country due to the death of Nemesio Oseguera. “We are analyzing and monitoring the situation in Mexico these days, at this moment, but I want to say from the beginning that we have total confidence in Mexico, in its president Sheinbaum, in the authorities, and we are convinced that everything will happen in the best possible way,” he assured.
Infantino’s words are made public after the Portuguese Federation has left its participation in the reopening of the Banorte Stadium in the air in a match against the Mexican National Team this March 28. “Like in every country in the world, things happen. We do not live on the moon or on another planet, things happen, that is why we have States, police, authorities, who are going to ensure order and security,” he said.
Mexico will host matches in Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara as part of the soccer tournament. This last city is located in Jalisco, the State that recorded the most violent events after the Mexican Government’s operation against the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and its leader, El Mencho. “The World Cup is going to be an incredible party,” said the FIFA president.
