The Jalisco Ministry of Education confirmed the closure of a school campus in the municipality of San Pedro Tlaquepaque due to multiple cases of Measles.

The head of the state agency, Juan Carlos Flores, explained that the closed school campus has three educational levels and corresponds to a private institution. The closure of the school was recommended by the State Health Secretary to prevent the spread, although it is not yet known how many cases of the disease there are.

“In 3 schools the decision was made in Tlaquepaque to suspend the entire school. It had worked well, especially in Arandas to suspend a group, but in Tlaquepaque the Ministry of Health recommended that they close their three educational services. They have a primary, a secondary and a high school in the same headquarters.”

“It is a primary school that is located very close to the municipal seat of Tlaquepaque. The Secretary of Health has not yet confirmed the number of children affected. What he did ask us to close is the educational service at the three levels.”

In total, there are 11 school campuses across the state with closures due to the spread of measles among students. Of them, 10 are in the municipality of Arandas.

According to Juan Carlos Flores, the recommendation revolves around the suspension of a group when there is a student with measles symptoms; The classroom is subsequently sanitized and reopened as soon as indicated by the state Ministry of Health.

The state official also mentioned that measles vaccination brigades are arriving at schools to prevent the disease.
