The electrification of heavy transportation is advancing faster than many expected. And now there are figures to prove it. Renault Trucks, its commercial vehicles division, has presented its 2025 results and they leave a clear conclusion: electric trucks are no longer a bet, they are a reality that is growing throughout Europe.
A priori, 2025 looked like a complicated year for the sector, since the slowdown in the sale of electric vehicles had been weighing down the numbers for months. However, Renault Truck has just presented truly healthy numbers and growth expectations rarely imagined until now.
Renault Trucks exceeds expectations with electric truck sales
Renault Trucks states that in 2025 it sold a total of 55,011 industrial vehicles. Of that total, 2,612 vehicles went to the zero emissions sector. The protagonist, without a doubt, and the one that has generated the greatest number of sales has been the area of light commercial models. These have grown by 190% over the previous year’s figures, with 1,812 registrations signed.
At the point of mid-range or heavy-duty electric trucks, these represented 800 of those total registrations. This is the less friendly side of the results, as they fell 20% compared to the same period in 2024. Despite this, the total sum between both divisions closed 2025 with an increase of 60% over what was achieved a year before (1,628 units).
After this good result, Renault Truck now has its sights set on 2026, since after completing the first quarter of the year, the French company states that they have already experienced a growth of 48% over the same period in 2025. Once again, this period of time has been crowned by light commercial vehicles.
What is expected for the present and future of Renault Trucks
Looking at the general count in the electric truck industry in Europe, Renault Trucks has managed to capture a 15% market share. Despite its growth in 2025, that year other rival companies also came into action, such as Mercedes or Volvo, among others. This has caused its average to drop from the 24.2% obtained in 2024. In France, particularly, Renault dominates the electric truck market with 63% of the share.
2026 looks really interesting for the French company. Renault Trucks will add new electric trucks to its range. These will go into production this year. Furthermore, looking ahead to 2027, the brand has announced an agreement with the supplier Flexis, for the distribution of electric light trucks.
Several models will go into production in 2026. The first series to do so will be the Renault Trucks E-Tech D, compact models specialized in urban delivery and with 12 and 14 ton versions. These will be followed by the T540, which will be focused on regional transportation. Above will be the T585, which prioritizes payload capacity. Finally, in the last period of the year, production of the T780 will begin, an electric truck for long distances with up to 600 km of autonomy.
Europe continues to grow in the electric truck sector
The general context also helps to understand this progress. The price of fuel has risen significantly in 2026. This, together with a lower cost of use, has made many transport companies look to electric trucks as a more profitable source.
For this reason, brands like Mercedes have already begun sales of their alternatives specially designed for works in urban areas. However, many electric truck brands continue to attribute low adoption due to the weak charging infrastructure spread across Europe. In fact, many experts affirm that, if this were not the case, electric trucks would already be in the majority on the roads of the Old Continent.
