Venezuelan Anthony Santander’s postseason is over. An injury forced the Blue Jays to replace their valuable offseason acquisition on the 26-man ALCS roster with outfielder Joey Loperfido. By rule, Santander will not be eligible to be added to the World Series roster if Toronto advances.
The news ends Santander’s first season with the Blue Jays on a disappointing note. The ranger only played 54 games in the regular season after missing most of the summer due to inflammation in his left shoulder, batting just .175 with six home runs. He went 3 for 15 in the playoffs with no extra bases, and was removed from the lineup in Game 2 of the ALCS due to back stiffness.
Loperfido, 26, spent most of 2025 in the Minor Leagues, but performed when given the opportunity in the Major League, posting an .879 OPS in 41 games with the Blue Jays. He has seen action at all three outfield positions, as well as first base in the Majors.
