Given the increase in measles cases in the Entity, the University of Guadalajara (UdeG), Through the Health Situation Room, it has launched a joint strategy with the Government of Jalisco to reinforce immunization coverage.
As of today, Tuesday, November 11, three vaccination modules were enabled in university centers of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area: the Economic-Administrative Sciences (CUCEA)Health Sciences (CUCS) and that of Tonalá (CUTonalá).
The application will be aimed at girls and boys under 13 years of age, members of the university community and the general population who do not have their complete vaccination schedule or have not received any dose. The vaccine available to be applied will be the triple viral vaccine (SRP)which protects against measles, rubella and mumps, and It will be applied from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The modules will be located in easily accessible spaces within each campus: in CUCEA they will be installed inside the university center; At the CUCS they will be located on the esplanade of Building Q, behind the Roberto Mendiola Orta Auditorium, and at the CUTonalá, in the facilities of the Hospital Civil de Oriente.

According to Jaime Andrade Villanueva, Academic and Research Vice-Rector of the UdeG, it is planned to expand the campaign to more campuses in the University Network as the actions progress, in order to increase protection among students, teaching and administrative staff, as well as in the communities near each campus.

Among the characteristic signs of the disease are fever, cough, runny nose, eye irritation and the appearance of red spots on the skin.
They warned, during the winter season these symptoms can be confused with other respiratory infections, so they recommend being vigilant and going to a medical check-up in case of suspicion.
The current measles outbreak, they explained, is related to the decrease in vaccine coverage that occurred during and after the pandemic. COVID-19.
Added to this were disinformation campaigns that promoted false arguments about the risks of vaccination, causing thousands of children and young adults not to complete their protection scheme.

The triple viral vaccine, Pérez Gómez recalled, is more than 97% effective when applied according to the official schedule. The first dose should be received between 12 and 15 months of age and the booster between 4 and 6 years.
Side effects are usually mild and short-lived, such as pain or redness in the application area and temporary fever.
In addition to immunization, health authorities recommended maintaining basic hygiene measures, such as frequent hand washing, disinfection of surfaces and the use of face masks if respiratory symptoms or fever occur.
Also It is suggested to avoid attending classes or workplaces while there are signs of possible contagion.
Finally, the specialists called on citizens to stay informed only through official sources, such as the Jalisco Health Secretariat, the University of Guadalajara and the Guadalajara Civil Hospital to avoid the dissemination of false information that could hinder measles prevention and control actions.
