The Star Wars universe continues to grow with the next Maul series, which would take up original ideas from George Lucas that you couldn’t miss.

The Star Wars universe has changed immensely over the years, with so many creative voices contributing their vision that conflicting interpretations have led to constant changes to the canon. Following Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm, the content of Legends was scrapped in favor of a new story. However, the next series Maul: Shadow Lord seems to be giving fans exactly what they wanted: a return to George Lucas’s original ideas for the future of the franchise.

A familiar Legends character could return to current canon with Maul
Before the Disney acquisition, several sequel stories existed, such as the comic book series Star Wars: Legacy
(2006-2010). One of the most fascinating characters of that era was Darth Talon, a Sith Lord Twi’lek with a design that was directly reminiscent of Darth Maul. George Lucas himself became so interested in her that he planned to make her Maul’s apprentice in his own version of the sequel trilogy, where Maul would act as the main antagonist and galactic crime lord after the fall of the Empire.
Although those plans never materialized under the command of
disneythe trailer of Maul: Shadow Lord
has raised fans’ hopes by showing a young Twi’lek woman wielding a lightsaber, identified as Devon Izara, according to CBR.
Maul: Shadow Lord trailer hints at Darth Talon-style apprentice
In the official trailer, we see Maul facing off against Imperial soldiers and Inquisitors, but many’s attention was focused on this new Twi’lek. Although Devon Izara doesn’t appear to be an exact copy of Lucas’ Darth Talon, it’s clear that the series is taking inspiration from those scrapped plans by giving Maul his own apprentice.
Unlike the original Talon, who was going to be the equivalent of Darth Vader in Lucas’ sequels, Devon appears to be a much more conflicted character. However, the fact that Disney is embracing forgotten ideas from the original creator is a positive sign for the brand’s future. Only time will tell how the connection between Devon and Maul will play out when the series premieres on April 6.

Who is Darth Talon, from Maul, in the Star Wars Legends universe?
In the old canon of LegendsDarth Talon is one of the most iconic villains of the Legacy era, set more than 100 years after the original trilogy. She is a red-skinned Twi’lek covered in black tattoos that represent her absolute loyalty to Darth Krayt’s New Sith Order. As “Hand” of KraytTalon was a ruthless enforcer, known for her stealth, mastery of lightsaber combat, and unwavering devotion to the dark side, even going so far as to kill her own master to prove her loyalty.
What makes his possible “reincarnation” in Maul: Shadow Lord be as interesting is how Disney will adapt its design and personality. In the comics, her appearance was extremely distinctive, and while new apprentice Devon Izara appears to have a younger, more hesitant tone, the essence of a Twi’lek warrior linked to Maul’s tattoos could finally unify George Lucas’ visions with the current Disney+ canon.

What influence would Darth Talon have on Maul and the timeline?
The inclusion of a Darth Talon-inspired figure within
Maul: Shadow Lord profoundly alters Maul’s perception, transforming him from a lone survivor into a mentor with dynastic ambitions. In the timeline, this relationship fills the gap between their escape after the
Order 66 and his rise as leader of Crimson Dawn.
The influence of an apprentice like Bead (or its equivalent Devon Izara) would allow exploring the more strategic side of Maul, using the charisma and skill of the Twi’lek to infiltrate systems that the Empire has not yet managed to control.
Narratively, this validates the original ideas of George Lucas, who saw in this duo the engine of a new criminal era. Talon’s presence forces us to recontextualize future events in
Only and
Rebelssuggesting that Maul’s actions were not simple acts of madness, but part of a master plan to inherit the galaxy through his own Sith lineage.
