Monterrey, NL. Goalkeeper Raúl “Tala” Rangel saved a penalty when the match expired so that Chivas preserved the 3-2 victory against Rayados de Monterrey this Saturday, and thus consolidated its lead in the Clausura 2026 tournament of the Liga Mx.
Montenegrin Serbian Uros Djurdjevic took the maximum penalty during the eighth minute of stoppage time, after Rayados scored a pair of goals in the last 10 minutes that tightened the score.
Chivas controlled the match after goals from Armando “La Hormiga” González (18th minute), José Castillo (46th) and Bryan González (55th), the last two with shots from outside the area.
The victory became complicated for the Guadalajara team after Djurdjevic reduced it to 88 and Ricardo Chávez scored the second for the hosts at 90+3.
Referee Víctor Cáceres Hernández marked the penalty with which the match would end after a handball in the area by Bryan González. Rangel went to his bench to chat with his coach, the Argentine Gabriel Milito, before making a save by diving to his left side and keeping the ball.
Chivas achieved its fourth victory with this result, coinciding with the good scoring moment of “La Hormiga” González, to ensure that it goes into the FIFA Date break as the leader with 30 points, after celebrating its tenth victory of the championship.
Rayados was left out of the league zone by placing itself in ninth position with 14 points, after adding its third day without a victory (two losses and a draw).
With his effective performance, “La Hormiga” González has already reached the Brazilian Joao Pedro (San Luis) in the scoring leadership with ten goals. Both players, along with the Portuguese Paulinho (Toluca), were the scoring champions of the last Apertura 2025 with 12 goals.
Both José Castillo and Bryan González made their debut as scorers in this championship with their superb finishes from far away from the rival goal.
At the Libertad Financiera stadium, León ended a three-game losing streak by beating San Luis 2-1 with goals from Fernando Beltrán (in the 37th minute) and Miguel Rodríguez (90+4).
Sébastien Salles-Lamonge (41) scored for the Potosí team.
The victory of the emeralds coincides with the first game on the bench of the Argentine Javier Gandolfi, who was presented last Friday as the new strategist following the departure of Ignacio Ambriz.
The victory left León in 11th position with 13 points; while San Luis stagnated in 14th place with 11 units.
In another match, Atlas tied 0-0 with Querétaro at the Jalisco stadium. The red and black are sixth with 18 units. In turn, Gallos occupies place 17, with eight points.
