Cuban sweep in the Players of the Week; Adell, author of the best play

Astros star Yordan Alvarez and rising Dodgers star Andy Pagés were named Players of the Week on Monday, while Angels outfielder Jo Adell earned Play of the Week for one of his three jaw-dropping home run steals on Saturday night.

Alvarez played in just 48 games in 2025 due to multiple injuries, but the Astros slugger has returned to form early in 2026. He hit .471 during the week, recording three home runs, two doubles and eight RBIs with seven walks and only three strikeouts.

“Air Yordan” is currently tied for third place in the Major Leagues with four home runs, tied (with his teammate, Venezuelan José Altuve) for the lead in walks with 12 and leads the Majors in on-base percentage (.578) and slugging percentage (.900).

Álvarez has been named American League Player of the Week three more times in his career, most recently in August 2024.

Pagés, 23, had a breakout season in 2025, posting a 3.8 bWAR. He’s on track to surpass that in 2026 after hitting .583/.615/.917 in the first full week of the season. That included two home runs, two doubles and seven RBIs.

Pagés currently shares the MLB lead with Xavier Edwards by batting .471 with 16 hits in 2026.

This is Pagés’ time as National League Player of the Week, having won the award in April 2025.

Ultimately, Adell took home his second 2026 Play of the Week award, thanks to one of the best single-game defensive performances baseball has ever seen. The 26-year-old denied home runs to three Mariners players (Cal Raleigh, Josh Naylor and JP Crawford) in the Angels’ 1-0 win on Saturday.

His final act of stealing, in the ninth inning, was particularly special. He jumped over the right field fence and rolled into the stands, all while maintaining control of the ball to make the out.

The exploits not only helped secure the victory, but also created an incredible photo from a fan in the stands, who captured Adell standing in the front row as he proudly presented the ball with his arms outstretched.

“That was crazy,” Adell said. “Right after the first one, we were pretty excited. And then I got the second one, which looked identical to the first one. And I was like, ‘Wow, my routes are kind of perfect tonight.'”
