What works, it is better to touch it little, a saying that can be applied to the maximum with toyotabecause what has been achieved to make things work, for that efficiency, takes years and years of work, research and evolution.

The hybrid mechanics needs little introduction, in toyotahave earned themselves one of the most valued on the market, and a clear example is one of the brand’s best-selling car models, the Toyota Yaris Crosswhich is the best-selling hybrid SUV in our country and the star model of the brand that sells the most cars in Spain.

It is true that the segment in which it operates is more competitive than ever, with European and also Chinese rivals, who compete on the basis of price and equipment. But in warranty, in reliability, you don’t pay for that, you earn that over the years, and the Japanese have no competition. Of course, even if things have to be touched a little when they work, it is necessary to make changes from time to time, subtle and at the same time decisive, so as not to be left behind and maintain the triumphant trend.

This is demonstrated by the Yaris Cross Hybrid 2027which does not reach dealerships next year, arrives this September, back to school, and it does so with a starting price of 27,500 euros, very competitive given the market: it is exactly the same starting price as the previous range, without an increase. At first glance, it renews the front, inspired by the RAV4, and inside, more technology and more sustainable materials. The mechanics are the same, self-charging hybrid. Could it be improved? By proxy, it could, but its effectiveness and performance are well proven and it doesn’t need more.

The complete range already has rates: the Style starts at 29,000 euros, the GR Sport at 29,800 and the exclusive Style Plus Premiere at 31,400, with AWD-i all-wheel drive reserved for the latter for 2,500 euros more. The order book is open now, with an announced fee from 150 euros per month with Toyota Easy Plus, pending final conditions.

The changes to the Yaris Cross

As we have indicated in the previous lines, the most relevant aesthetic change, and it is really noticeable, is on the front, offering a new honeycomb-style grille, integrated in the same color as the body. This makes it resemble the new languages ​​that Toyota is implementing in the brand, similar to the RAV4and this makes it look more robust. The wheel arches are more marked, they are reinforced with the black lower part, and it now has LED headlights that make it look wider, more robust, even though it is a compact for the city.

There are also two new colors to make the difference: Celestite Grey, available in the Active and Style finishes, and Petra Bronze, reserved for the Style Plus Premiere in two-tone configuration with black roof and pillars.

He Yaris offers four finishes, the Business, reserved for company fleets, the Active, the Style and the GR Sport, and also, an extra variant, the Style Plus Premiere. The cheapest for individuals, the Active, offers 17-inch wheels, integrated LED daytime running light. The Style raises the wheels to 18 inches with a new design, in addition to adding an opening tailgate kickwhich also comes standard on the GR Sport.

Digitalization and sustainability

Toyota takes an important step in offering higher quality and more careful finishes, with new platinum-tone door panels, a completely digital environment, an instrument panel and a multimedia system that has been updated from top to bottom. The same Active finish now comes with fabric upholstery that was previously only available in the top range, in the Style. It offers sports seats, and new blue ambient lighting, as well as a wireless charger for mobile phones.

In the Style finish we will find the new upholstery SakuraTouch, made with PVC of plant origin, cork waste and recycled PET, with the aim of reducing, according to Toyota, CO2 emissions by 95% compared to leather. The Style also adds a 12.3-inch digital display, heated front seats and a blind spot detector.

And in the case of the GR Sport, a quality step is taken, with a unique front bumper, 18-inch machined wheels, a retuned suspension that will improve driving precision, suede sports seats with red stitching and GR logos, and a particularity: it is offered exclusively with front-wheel drive.

The mechanics do not change

What is not going to change is the mechanics of the Yaris Cross, because it is very effective and there is no need to touch it for this face wash. Continues to offer the hybrid system self-rechargeable fifth generation in two levels: the access Hybrid 120, with 116 HP, and the Hybrid 130which combines the 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor to offer 130 hp, 96 kW, and goes from 0 to 100 km/h in just 10.7 seconds. It declares an approved consumption of 4.4 liters per 100 km, with the ECO label from the DGT.

The AWD-i all-wheel drive, which adds a second electric motor on the rear axle to improve traction, is reserved for the Style Plus Premiere finish. And the figures support the formula: last year alone, the Yaris Cross delivered more than 200,000 units in Europe, all leaving the French factory in Valenciennes, where production of the renewed model begins this summer.

In this way, Toyota updates one of the cars that has worked best on the market, it does not update the engine, it is not necessary, but it updates itself in design, and especially in interior technology, so as not to lose distance with the new options that are coming out on the market, nor with a Chinese market, which is coming in strong, no longer with updates, with many new brands that want to take a share of the market.

The price, in itself, is very competitive, but as we have been saying, it has something that others do not have, a reliability and a guarantee that no one else can offer, which has been earned over the years, and which allows it to continue moving forward with optimism in one of the most tense moments in the market. Not in vain, Toyota closed 2025 as the best-selling brand in Spain, reaching close to 100,000 units for the first time, and remains the leader in this first half of 2026.
