XBOX is in a very negative situation. After announcing the restart of the XBOX business, Microsoft is considering making a big wave of layoffs and a huge restructuring within its video game division, one that would involve the closure or sale of several studios from XBOX Game Studios. Since millions of people are aware of the crisis that XBOX is going through, Shawn Layden, former head of PlayStation, wanted to give his opinion on the matter.
Shawn Layden criticizes XBOX again
Layden went to LinkedIn and left a comment on a post by consultant Tadhg Kelly, who listed the latest XBOX movements (CEO change, rebranding, possible closure of studios, etc.), in which he implied that Microsoft doesn’t understand the true nature of video game business. “Without trying to sound like a ‘hater’ (which I really am not), all of these movements show a basic misunderstanding of how it moves the world of entertainment interactive”.
“Those who know it know it, and those who don’t know it, don’t know it,” said the former head of SIE America (via Kotaku). Regarding the possible studio closures of Ninja Theory, Compulsion Games or Double Fine, Layden was just as direct: “I feel bad for the development teams. I think the SpaceX euphemism can apply here: ‘Rapid and unforeseen dismantlement.'” This is not the first time the former PlayStation boss has taken aim at XBOX. Last year he called Game Pass a dangerous model that turned developers into “wage slaves.”

However, a couple of months ago Layden criticized XBOX again for the Game Pass subscription. He said Xbox was “trying as hard as they can to turn Game Pass into something healthydespite unfavorable diagnoses and a gloomy prognosis.” These words came after Asha Sharma lowered the price of Game Pass Ultimate in exchange for not including every new Call of Duty in the service from launch day. In related news, an analyst believes that the new exclusives strategy means condemning Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork to failure.
