Rockstar released the remastered editions of GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas in 2021, but the reception was lukewarm due to technical glitches and bugs. The head of the Grove Street Games studio has come forward, acknowledging the problems, although he states that internal data shows that many players did enjoy the experience. For those who paid full price, the initial feeling was that they had bought a half-baked product.
Later patches and performance on current generation consoles 🎮
The remasters came with blurry textures, lighting errors, and strange physics, especially on PC versions and older consoles. Over time, several patches fixed serious issues such as crashes and bad collisions. Even so, the technical base was still the adapted mobile version, which limited the graphical and gameplay potential. On Xbox Series X and PS5 performance improved, but it never reached the level of a remake made from scratch.
The positive side: at least the trees don’t fly anymore 🌳
According to internal data, there were people who had a good time. Of course, just like someone who enjoys a burnt pizza because they’re hungry. The remasters did the basics: drive, shoot, and listen to the radio. But if you paid 60 euros to see CJ with clay shadows and rain that looked like oil, perhaps the studio’s happy numbers won’t console you. In the end, the patches left the games playable, but the magic of returning to Liberty City or Vice City remained in 2021, frozen in a bug.
