With the goal of applying up to one million 419 thousand 285 doses of influenza vaccines, and 370 thousand against Covid-19this afternoon started in Jalisco the National Vaccination Campaign winter seasonwhich will take place from October 13 to April 3, 2026aimed mainly at people from vulnerable groups.
The target population to receive the influenza vaccine are girls and boys from six months to four years old, adults 60 years and morepregnant women, health personnel and people of five to 59 years with comorbidities (diabetes, morbid obesity, COPD, asthma, cardiovascular diseases, kidney failure, immunosuppression, cancer, HIV/AIDS, among others). Meanwhile, for Covid-19 – under a single dose or booster scheme – they are those from six months and who have not received any dose (primary scheme), pregnant women, adults aged 60 years and over, healthy people and the population from six months to 59 years with comorbidities.
The campaign is carried out in conjunction with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS)the Institute of Security and Social Services of State Workers (ISSSTE)the Secretary of National Defense (SEDENA)the Secretary of the Navy, Municipal Medical Services and the Decentralized Public Organizations (OPD) and Health Services of Jalisco. Vaccine doses will be available in all health regions of the state, and can be accessed at the closest health centers.
There will also be vaccines against pneumococcus for older adults and immunosuppressed people of any age, in addition to the doses against influenza protecting against four different strains, highlighted the Secretary of Health of Jalisco, Héctor Raúl Pérez Gómez.
“Vaccines are the most important prevention tool that has been generated throughout history, throughout the entire history of humanity. Vaccines are more important than antibiotics, they are more important than practically any prevention strategy (…). That the population has confidence that they will be receiving the best biologics that are applied throughout the world,” he noted.
For her part, the general strategic coordinator of Social Development of the State Government, Andrea Blanco Calderon, He highlighted the importance of getting vaccinated, especially given the risk of infecting other people or a newborn baby with a disease. “It is the responsibility to vaccinate ourselves and those in our family.”
The president of the DIF Zapopan System, Michelle Greicha Frangieemphasized that the priority in this winter season is the elderly due to the drop in temperatures. The simultaneous application of influenza and Covid-19 vaccines is recommended, as well as other biologicals from the permanent program.
According to data from the weekly report on respiratory diseases of the federal Ministry of Health, until October 10 in Jalisco there had been registered 158 positive cases of Covid-19 and seven deaths, as well as 18 cases of influenza.
