The health situation in Mexico It once again raised red flags at different levels of the health system. The most recent official reports confirm that a disease that the country had managed to control years ago maintains a sustained circulation, with figures that no longer go unnoticed by the authorities or regional organizations.
Although the phenomenon did not begin suddenly or unexpectedly, its persistence over time and territorial expansion have generated concern. The number of people affected continues to grow and crosses multiple states of the country.
In this context, the epidemiological data of recent days have revealed infections on the rise, deaths and a low number of people vaccinated which, in a significant part, make up the list of the most serious cases.

Measles in Mexico: official figures, infections and confirmed deaths
According to the national epidemiological surveillance system, Mexico accumulates 7,624 confirmed cases of measles distributed in 31 entities of the country, with the exception of Campeche, where no active circulation of the virus has been documented. Added to this figure are 26 confirmed deaths, which reinforces the seriousness of the current scenario.
The Epidemiological Bulletin corresponding to Epidemiological Week 3 of 2026, ending January 26, details that during this period more than 18,500 cases probable of febrile exanthematous illness.
After laboratory analysis, more than 7,600 were confirmed to have actually been infected with the measles virusconsolidating a nationwide outbreak.
Where did the greatest number of deaths occur?
The recorded deaths are mainly concentrated in Chihuahuawhich accumulates 21 deathsfollowed by Jalisco, Durango, Sonora and Michoacán.
A fact that appears in official records and raises the concern of specialists is that only 3.8% of the deceased had a history of vaccination, which has once again put immunization coverage at the center of the debate.

Sustained transmission of measles and states with the most cases in Mexico
Mexico recently fulfilled 12 months of sustained transmission of the measles virus, an epidemiological threshold that puts at risk the elimination status that the country has held since 2016, according to the criteria of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
The outbreak began to be monitored since February 2025, when the first cases were detected in minors without a complete vaccination schedule. Since then, the chain of transmission has not been interrupted and the virus has spread progressively through different regions.
