The Baltimore team will debut clothing including a helmet with new colors and design
COLUMBIA, Md. — The Baltimore Ravens They gathered more than 6,000 subscribers to a local concert hall to present the most significant changes to their uniform in 27 years.
The headline-grabbing detail of the night was a new black alternative helmet, which will be worn when the team wears its black jerseys and pants. The helmet, with a matte black finish, features black stripes that simulate claws and a front logo of the Ravens in two tones, accentuating the red eyes that can also be seen on the tunnel during the presentation of the players in the stadium.
“We wanted that kind of ‘wow factor,’ which has really turned out to be that black helmet for the ‘darkness’ uniform,” said Brad Downs, senior vice president of marketing for the Ravens. “It’s really become the star piece for people who wanted to see us make a more drastic change.”
Other changes included a pattern on the collar of the three main jerseys depicting the spread wings of a raven, which nods to the plumage details present in the team’s original 1996 logo set. The word “Baltimore” now appears on the front of the white jerseys (typically worn in away games), and the back of the neck of the purple, black and edition jerseys. Purple Rising also includes name Baltimore.
A new purple alternative helmet was also introduced that features the main logo of the Ravensallowing its interchangeability with additional uniform combinations.
The process to complete the new uniform collection—named The Next Flight— it took three years.
“We wanted it to continue transmitting the essence of the Ravens“said Downs. “We think of it as an evolution; “We didn’t see it as a total renovation or a completely new uniform.”
The two-and-a-half-hour event, held at the Merriweather Post Pavilion, included interviews with new head coach, Jesse Minterand their coordinators, as well as with the president of the team, Sashi Brownand members of the ring of honor of the franchise. The event concluded with the current players coming out on stage wearing the new clothing.
The new defensive end of the Ravens, Trey Hendrickson —who signed a four-year, $112 million contract with the team in March after spending five seasons with the Cincinnati BengalsAFC North Division rivals — sported the new black helmet and corresponding uniform combination. “What an incredible honor to still be playing in the AFC North…on the right side of the ball,” Hendrickson said. “Obviously, the uniforms are beautiful. That turns you on.”
