La Jornada – Actor Gerardo Taracena, known for his work in ‘Apocalypto’ and the series ‘Narcos: México’, died


Recognized for his participation in the films Apocalypto, man on fire, The mexican and Unnamedas well as in the series Narcos: Mexicothe Mexican actor and dancer Gerardo Taracena died this Saturday at the age of 55.

The news was confirmed by the National Association of Actors (ANDA) on its social networks, without disclosing the causes or further details of the death.

Born in Mexico City on March 27, 1970, Taracena stood out for his extensive acting record and great versatility, participating in dozens of theater, film and television productions of various genres.

I study Dramatic Art at the University Theater Center (CUT) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). From 1992 to 1996 – according to a biography on the online site Sensacine México – he performed in various theater and dance festivals with the Integro dance group from Peru and later was part of the Theater Myth theater group.

His debut on the big screen occurred in 1994 with the film The Cougar’s Daughterwhich they followed Without leaving a trace (1995), Round (2000) and A trickle of blood (2000).

Winner of the Ariel Award for Best Male Co-Acting in 2007 for his role in the film the violin (2005), Taracena also participated in various projects both in Mexico and the United States, playing different characters in films such as What is the child’s fault? flying low, Saving soldier Pérez, Desire and hell.

However, his characterization as “Middle Eye”, in Apocalypto, by Mel Gibson, released in 2006, was the role that made him known internationally. He also stood out for his participation as César “Batman” Güemes in the series The queen of the south.
