With a masterful performance, American Olympic medalist Shakur Stevenson managed to snatch the World Boxing Organization (WBO) super lightweight title from his compatriot Teófimo López Jr., after beating him by unanimous decision this Saturday at a function held at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York, becoming champion in four divisions (feather, super featherweight, lightweight and super lightweight).
In his fourth defense of the 140-pound belt, which he won with a unanimous decision victory over Josh Taylor in June 2023, the former unified lightweight champion, who now holds a record of 22 wins, 13 by knockout, and two losses, lost the fight after the three judges voted 119-109 in favor of Stevenson, who dominated from start to finish to remain undefeated and reach 25 victories, 11 via chloroform.
In his debut in the super lightweight category, Stevenson gave a boxing lesson to his opponent, who ended up with a cut on his eyebrow after receiving several bursts of forceful blows that prevented him from retaining his title.
